4. Who will replace the leadership and production of Cameron Erving?
Last year Cameron Erving was the center and he was responsible for the leadership and most importantly the gaping holes through the middle of the line. Erving is now gone, taking his talent to the NFL, and the replacement will have big shoes to fill (literally).
The leading candidate is Ryan Hoefeld, who is a red shirt sophomore. Hoefeld had some looks last year at center, before Erving was moved there to stabilize the line. Hoefeld struggled mightily when in there and that led to some interior pressure as well as the Seminoles being forced to run to the outside and not in the middle of the field.
This year there is no security option like Erving to step in and take over if Hoefeld struggles. There will be a competition at center to make sure the best player gets the job, but Hoefeld is the best option. If Hoefeld can’t develop, Maguire will see a lot more pressure up the middle than a quarterback will like.
