The North Carolina Tar Heels wrapped up spring practice with a scrimmage from Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday and here are all the highlights of the action.

Last season did not go according to plan for North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora who began the season with aspirations of competing for the ACC championship, but finished the season with a losing record.

The Tar Heels had a miserable four-game stretch when they surrendered an average of 51 points in losses to East Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame to fall to 2-4 on the year. Those were four of nine occasions when the North Carolina defense allowed at least 34 points on the year. They were 2-7 in those games as North Carolina finished 6-7 after losing to Rutgers in the 2014 Quick Lane Bowl.

In comes former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik who won a national championship with Cam Newton at Auburn and is in charge of fixing the defense as the new defensive coordinator. It’s tough to play defense in a scrimmage, but fans got the first real glimpse of how his defense will look in Chapel Hill at Saturday’s scrimmage.

He didn’t need to worry about defending Marquise Williams who was held out with a hip injury, but he did have to contend with rising sophomore running back Elijah Hood who is primed for a breakout sophomore campaign.
