You can call the first play in the second half of Notre Dame’s spring game.

Have you ever watched a sporting event and wondered why the coach would call such a ridiculous play?

Of course you have, that’s part of what being a passionate sports fan is all about, but now you can actually put yourselves in the shoes of a head coach or offensive coordinator and call an actual play.

Notre Dame is running a contest for one lucky fan to win the chance to call the team’s first play in the second half of their spring game on Saturday.

Listen to head coach Brian Kelly read a cue card, I mean listen to Kelly as he gives an impassioned plea for fans of the Fighting Irish to compete for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to call a play.

What play would you call if you were the lucky fan?

Would you work out of the shotgun and order up one of John Gruden’s favorite plays and run “Spider 2-Y Banana?

Maybe you are a run-oriented coach who wants to instill a smashmouth mentality and go to one of Hank Stram’s favorite plays and run the 65 toss power trap?

If I was the lucky fan, it would be an easy call for which play I’d dial up. I’m calling the Annexation of Puerto Rico and we’re gonna score a touchdown.
