1. What will become of the quarterback situation?
Most of you probably can tell where I stand on who should be the starter for the Irish from the picture above. I know most will say Golson is the senior and has led them to the championship game before, that was years ago, and Golson has regressed since then.
Golson is now a senior and his decision-making last year, when Brian Kelly said he had matured, was atrocious. Golson threw 14 interceptions and had eight lost fumbles in just 13 games. That is almost two turnovers per game from an upperclassmen, who is the person most in charge with the ball on your team.
Kelly owes it to the team to turn to Malik Zaire, who didn’t let the game get too big for him despite playing against USC and LSU. Some may say split time, but I am of the opinion quarterback systems do not work. Quarterbacks will get too cautious when they know the hook could be coming at any time, and if one person plays well then the other player promised those snaps doesn’t get them and becomes a problem.
Zaire is the future for Kelly and the Irish, and it will be interesting what will be done about it in the spring game and how each player looks.
