LSU had their spring game on Saturday but the biggest news of the day comes from Edwin Alexander’s commitment to the Tigers.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Alexander is rated a five-star prospect and is touted as the No.13 player in the country, the No. 3 defensive tackle in his class and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Louisiana per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He committed to the Tigers on November 23, 2013, but decommitted on April 24, 2014 giving him more time to weigh his options. In between that time, he collected offers from Texas A&M, Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee. And also in that time saw LSU lose defensive coordinator John Chavis and defensive line coach Brick Haley, but the hire of new line coach Ed Orgeron brought him back to LSU.

According to Geaux247’s Sonny Shipp, Alexander’s family was won over by the new defensive line coach at LSU and thinks the changes are positive ones.

"“They love (defensive line coach Ed Orgeron). He’s a real open guy. He’s crazy, too, but he’s real trustworthy. And I think he’s a pretty good coach. I’ve looked him up and everyone says the same.“Everything has changed up over there. Everything. And I think it’s in a good way. I think the team is really going to do something this year.”"

Although he decommited, LSU was still on his radar as far back as last summer when he took an unofficial visit to the campus on July 25. Once school was in session again, he visited the program three more times (September 13, October 25, and February 7 for the program’s Junior Day) before reaffirming his commitment Saturday.

With this latest commitment, LSU moves up two spots in the 247Sports team rankings to No. 5 and have the No. 2 class in the SEC. This fills a huge need for Les Miles and he keeps the top recruit in the state of Louisiana.
