3. Duke Blue Devils

Duke will not be a serious contender for any national championship or likely even an ACC Championship, but if Braxton Miller is mostly thinking about his NFL future, this is the place to be. And that is true for any quarterback.

Who is better to develop them than Duke Head Coach David Cutcliffe? Cutcliffe coached the Manning brothers, Heath Shuler, Thad Lewis, and Sean Renfree. Four of those guys are still on NFL rosters, and Shuler was obviously a Heisman trophy runner-up who was a bust but still played with the Washington Redskins in the 1990s.

Yes, the Blue Devils lost a lot of talent this past year, including quarterback Anthony Boone, and appear to be in the midst of a rebuilding season.

But Miller’s arrival there would likely make him the immediate starter, and Cutcliffe would develop his mechanics. He would also figure out how Miller could use his physical gifts combined with pocket presence tutoring to know when to avoid sacks, get rid of the ball, and take off running if he chooses to.

The Cutcliffe name carries weight in the NFL, so he would get serious looks. But it’s not all about NFL future here.

If Miller made his way to Duke, the Blue Devils would immediately be back in contention for a very solid season. It may seem crazy, but he could get Duke to 10 wins with his skills and also prepare himself well for the NFL.
