Bobby Bowden: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one Star Wars character respected by everybody, in the movies and by fans. The same has now begun to hold true for Bobby Bowden, and yes, he won a BCS Title in 1999.

Seriously, who could say anything bad about this guy? And when you see him, you see an old guy who has been there and done that.

That’s exactly how Obi-Wan came onto the scene in the first Star Wars movie in 1977. He was an old guy who had already been there. No matter what you thought of anything else, the constant bickering between Han Solo and Princess Leia or the debates between Luke Skywalker and Han, you knew that whatever Obi-Wan said was simply right.

The same holds true for Bowden, who gives much funnier and off the cusp quotes than Obi-Wan but still has everybody listening to what he has to say.

Unfortunately, like Obi-Wan when the movie first came out, Bowden’s career is done. Kenobi was no longer the great warrior in 1977 that we saw in the Prequels. That fight with Darth Vader in that movie did not count. As Vader told the “Old Man,” his powers were weak.

And Bowden’s powers are gone as well. Oh, his connections also make him like Obi-Wan.

We explain that in the future.
