The three-star Perry is a 6-3, 190-pound safety who could be rising up the recruiting ranks this summer. A bit of a diamond in the rough who only had offers to Ole Miss and LSU in addition to Alabama, Perry ranks as the nation’s No. 633 overall recruit, No. 39 safety and the No. 37 ranked player in the state of Louisiana, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Perry visited Tuscaloosa for the team’s A-Day spring game when he received his offer and nearly pulled the trigger on committing then but decided to go back home and talk things over with his family before committing today.
"Proud to say that I'm verbally committed to The University of Alabama"
Perry and fellow 2016 commitment, Shyheim Carter from Kentwood, LA. go to the same parish so the two defensive back recruits could be future leaders of the secondary, along with another defensive back from Louisiana, Laurence “Hootie” Jones who was a part of the team’s 2014 class.
Nick Saban and Alabama have had success plucking recruits away from Les Miles and LSU in recent years, including Landon Collins who was just taken with the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and Cam Robinson who started at left tackle as a true freshman last year and has the look of a future All-American and first round pick.
With the commitment of Perry, Alabama now owns the nation’s No. 12 recruiting class and the No. 6 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings.
