Dixon was a four-star recruit and a member of the Trojans highly touted 2014 class that finished No. 1o in the nation, according to the 247Sports team rankings. Dixon was the nation’s No. 104 overall recruit, No. 2 tight end and the No. 10 recruit in the state of California, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The St. Bonaventure produce made an immediate impact with 14 receptions for 198 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games as a true freshman. With Randall Telfer gone, Dixon was expected to compete for the starting job in the spring, but missed spring practice due to a student-conduct issue, according to the Los Angeles Times.

With Dixon gone that leaves Oklahoma transfer Taylor McNamara competing with the job this fall with Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick who was a backup in 2012 and 2013 before missing last year after he was ruled academically ineligible. He only has three career receptions for 16 yards in 23 games.

The most intriguing option is incoming freshman Tyler Petite, who was a four-star recruit from Moraga Campolindo high school in California and the No. 9 tight end recruit last year according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

As for Dixon, hopefully he can get his affairs shored up as a student so he can return to the football field and live up to his potential, whether that can happen at USC or not should be known in the coming weeks and months.
