Florida Gators closing in on commitment from sleeper prospect Travis Homer?
The Florida Gators could be closing in on another recruit for the 2016 class with a diamond in the rough running back from West Palm Beach, FL.
It appears that the Florida Gators are focused on improving their defensive backfield. As noted by Luke Stampini of 247Sports, Florida defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan is traveling to Cocoa, Fla. Wednesday night to watch 2016 four-star commit Chauncey Gardner in his spring game but the secondary reason for the trip could be to see running back Travis Homer.

Homer is a three-star prospect whose profile is smaller, but he does have offers from the likes of Alabama, Florida, Florida State, and Miami so there is no question he is on the rise. He ranks as the nation’s No. 357 overall recruit, No. 22 running back and the No. 52 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
He’s previously visited Miami and Florida State but the 5-11, 195-pound back looks to be wide open in his recruitment, but the Florida Gators would be his best fit.
At the running back position, the Gators have one senior (Mark Herndon), a redshirt sophomore (Adam Lane) and two juniors (Darius Masline and Kelvin Taylor) with Taylor being a redshirt. Although four running backs may seem like a lot, there is always the unfortunate possibility of an injury, transfer and natural attrition, so Homer wouldn’t be facing a number of backs ahead of him on the depth chart.
It is very possible that this visit could lead to another commit for the Gators, although as we know by now, nothing is set in stone in the recruiting world. With Gardner already in the fold, there is a chance that Homer could follow suit.
