Ron Weasley – Mark Richt

“It’s been known to happen,” says Ron Weasley in response to everyone being surprised when he supplies a good suggestion. That’s also seems to be a very apt description of when fantastic seasons of football come around Georgia under head coach Mark Richt.

Mark Richt will be going into his 15th year as the head coach of the Bulldogs. He’s had nine 10-win or better seasons, he’s won the SEC East division four times, and he’s won the SEC conference championship twice. Back in the BCS era, Richt went to a BCS bowl game three times, and won two of them.

All of those accomplishments are great, but Richt has continued to mark time in the shadow of those other coaches that win national championships, the ones that are recognized by Gatorade showers, confetti, and hoisted up by their players all at the same time. Those seem to be the Harry Potters of the world, while Richt is the reliable Weasley in the background.
