Jones is the No. 66 overall player in his class, No. 11 overall at his position, and the No. 9 overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-6, 261-pound defensive tackle picked Alabama over finalists, LSU, Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M and his relationship with defensive line coach Bo Davis was instrumental in the Crimson Tide getting the verbal commitment. Jones tells 247Sports he still plans on taking visits to LSU, Texas and Arkansas and that he’s looking to win championships at Alabama.

As a junior, Jones, who goes by the nickname “Hulk”  was a first-team all-district selection after making 31 tackles, including nine for a loss. Those numbers were a continuation of what was a successful sophomore season, as he tallied 22 tackles, including nine for a loss and three sacks. For his efforts, he was named the District 8-5A Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

The commitment of Jones marks the Crimson Tide’s ninth commit for their 2016 class. Alabama has the nation’s No. 10 class and No. 5 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings.

Jones marks the fifth four-star commit in the class and the second from the state of Texas, joining four-star guard Chris Owens and is the second defensive lineman, joining 6-7, 315-pound tackle Raekwon Davis from Meridian, MS.

At 6-foot-4 and 361 pounds, Jones projects be a disruptive force in the running game as a nose tackle who has the potential to dominate on first and second downs and collapse the pocket on passing downs.
