Georgia was the leader for the disruptive interior lineman for the last two months and held off Auburn, Clemson, Louisville, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Oregon and USC. But according to 247Sports, Rochester didn’t become convinced he was ready to commit until last week.
“It did not hit me until I got out of school,” Rochester said. “Just sitting around the house, this past week, I was like ‘man….I got to get up there to Georgia and do it.”
The 6-5.5, 315-pound defensive tackle is the nation’s No. 10 overall recruit, No. 3 defensive tackle and the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia, trailing Lanier’s Derrick Brown, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is coming off a junior season that saw him collect 116 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 12 sack.s
Rochester is the second-highest recruit and joins fellow five-star recruit, Jacob Eason, as the only two composite five-stars in the class so far.
With today’s commitment, Georgia moves closer to cracking the top three and passing the Miami Hurricanes, but remain at No. 4 in the nation and hold the top class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings.
And now that Rochester is committed to Georgia he can shift his focus toward his senior year and go from the recruited to the recruiter. He tells 247Sports that he’ll be working on his high school quarterback Bailey Hockman as well as Mecole Hardman Jr., Antwuan Jackson, Nigel Warrior and Jordan Smith.
