Louisville’s Devonte Fields reached an agreement to have his misdemeanor assault charges dropped.

Earlier last week, it was reported that Louisville defensive end signee Devonte Fields was going on trial for misdemeanor assault. Now, his charges have been dropped after reaching an agreement with prosecutors on Friday, according to ESPN’s Max Olson.

Fields must complete four anger management courses for the charges to officially be dropped, according to Olson’s report. He was charged last July with assault causing bodily injury to a family member after allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend, which is a Class A misdemeanor.

His June 17 trial is now and Fields plans to finish his last class by June 24.

Having Fields on the field this fall will be huge for Louisville who hopes to contend for an ACC division title this year and having the former Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year will certainly help the Cardinals cause.

Fields tailed 53 tackles, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 13 games played in 2012 as a true freshman when he took home that honor and was the No. 2 rated junior college recruit of 2014 according to ESPN. After being dismissed from the TCU program in 2013 after the charges, you can bet that he is anxious to get back on the field.

With a tough schedule that includes a home-opener against Auburn, a game in Tallahassee against the Florida State Seminoles, and a contest against a rising Kentucky team to end the year, Louisville will have to have all hands on deck, as they try to separate themselves from the pack in what is shaping up to be a crowded yet competitive ACC.
