On Wednesday, it was announced that the MAC and CBS Sports Network had reached a deal to have games broadcast through 2018-19.

Today is a big day for fans of MAC football and MACtion. On Wednesday, it was announced that CBS Sports Network and the conference will air league football contests throughout the 2018-19 season. This all begins in the fall when six football games will be broadcasted, thanks in part to a sublicense agreement with ESPN per a report from Jerry Hinnen of CBSSports.com.

Two of the games that will be televised on CBS Sports Network will be played on Thursday, with another occurring the Friday after Thanksgiving. The other three games will air on Saturday.

“Today’s announcement is another important step in the continued growth of Mid-American Conference television coverage,” said MAC commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher said in a release. “Having CBS Sports Network join us is part of our vision for the growth of live national coverage for our fan base.”

This is big news, as it will undoubtedly help the sport of college football grow. Oftentimes, we as fans get to see the major conferences on television quite often, especially if there is a marquee matchup or dazzling playmakers involved. I do not have a problem with that as I tune in and enjoy watching myself. However, sometimes as a result of this, the smaller conferences get left by the wayside and almost forgotten, as the bigger conferences and the teams that represent them go to the national championship game most often.

Now, the MAC has a chance to showcase the casual college football fan what their conference is all about and maybe accumulate new fans in the process. It would be very difficult for the MAC to overtake any of the Power Five conferences, but gaining expanded exposure is a start.  This could only bode well for recruiting and will no doubt make the players even more excited about putting on the pads and leaving it all on the gridiron.
