What NCAA Conference Realignment Should Look Like

Mid-American Conference (MAC)

The MAC would be raided slightly by the Big East in our conference realignment scenario, but for the most part it would stay the same. Buffalo and UMASS would have to be gone to the new Big East, and Marshall would not be available since they would also be accepted.

As a result, the conference is stuck with 11 teams. Why not add Western Kentucky? This has been a very solid football program in recent years, and it would fit perfectly with he region. Currently, you have schools in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan. If you can’t get West Virginia, why not have a school from Kentucky.

And the Hilltoppers would fit in perfectly. From a divisional standpoint, all of the Ohio schools would be able to be on one side in this scenario, and all of the other MAC schools could be on the other because they would all be west. As a result, you protect every rivalry, and you create a new one or two. After all, Western Kentucky-Northern Illinois or Western Kentucky-Ball State is just screaming to be a rivalry game.

Oh, and with this scenario you keep the three Michigan schools in the same division, so there is a battle for state supremacy within this conference among two states. And supremacy in one of those states means winning the division.

Who can’t get excited about this?

For the most part, the MAC is fine. Western Kentucky would just be a perfect addition.
