The Georgia Bulldogs lost a key member of their 2016 recruiting class when four-star running back B.J. Emmons decommitted from the program.

The Georgia Bulldogs have one of the nation’s best recruiting classes, but they lost one of the key members of Mark Richt’s 2016 class when 2016 four-star running back B.J. Emmons (Morgantown, N.C. Freedom) decommitted from the program.

Emmons is the No. 116 overall player in the class of 2016, the No. 4 overall running back, and the No. 5 overall player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He committed to the Bulldogs back on December 1 and following his commitment, he attended the Tennessee Volunteers’ Junior Day on March 7.  Alabama also extended an offer to Emmons on May 22.

Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon served as the primary recruiter for Emmons while tight ends coach John Lilly served the role of secondary recruiter.

Within the SEC, Alabama and Tennessee are among his offers while North Carolina and Virginia Tech are offering him the chance to play in the ACC.

With this decommitment, the Bulldogs are still in good shape with the No. 5 class in the county, and the No. 2 overall class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings. The class itself carries two five-star commitments in quarterback Jacob Eason (Lake Stevens WA. Lake Stevens Sr.) and defensive tackle Julian Rochester (Powder Springs GA./McEachern.)

This is the second departure from the Georgia program in less than a week as redshirt freshman quarterback Jacob Park announced he was transferring on Tuesday to seek playing time elsewhere.

Where will Emmons go next? My guess is that he will end up in Knoxville and become a Tennessee Volunteer. And as far as what Georgia does to get a running back in this class, they are scheduled to host four-star running back Elijah Holyfield (College Park, GA. Woodward Academy) on Friday.
