Nelly- Number 1 (#1)

You have got to go with a Nelly song for the Missouri Tigers. Nelly has been seen at Missouri games, he is from St. Louis, and nobody has been the face musically of that state more so than him over the past 15 years.

So let’s go with the most narcissistic Nelly song you could think of. It does not get much more arrogant than Number 1 (#1). And this is perfect for Missouri due to the context of the song.

Nelly had a verse on that song responding to KRS-One, who was very old-school and trying to accuse Nelly’s new, pop sound of not being real hip hop. Nelly’s third verse was a warning shot to him on this song, noting that he is irrelevant and that he has no place to judge what hip hop is.

This is similar to Missouri entering the SEC. The Tigers were told they were not a real SEC team with their style of play under Gary Pinkel. But two SEC East championships later, they are tired of people judging what’s real football (“I’m tired of people judging what’s real hip hop”). And half the time they are the teams whose seasons have flopped.
