Northern Illinois Huskies

Lorde-Royals

The Northern Illinois Huskies have consistently dominated footballl in the Mid-American Conference in recent years, and it has been about the program, not so much the coaching staff.

However, they will never be on the level of the elite programs of college football. And they join a collection of college football programs in the MAC that are the same way. So as Lorde put it, they will never be Royals.

But that is just fine with them.

In the song, Lorde is crowning herself as the ruler among those who will never be royal. Northern Illinois has established itself as the ruler of those teams that will never be royal in the same way.

It would take an arrangement by the band to harmonize the meoldy since there is not much of one in the song, but it could work out. And Northern Illinois fans could take pride in the fact that they don’t need all the glamor that comes with an elite college football program.
