The Tigers need bodies at the position with only eight scholarship linebackers on the roster for the 2015 season, so he fills a big need and he’s very talented. The 6-1, 232-pound outside linebacker is the nation’s No. 88 ranked player overall, No. 6 weak-side defensive end and the No. 8 player in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

While listed as a weak-side end according to their rankings, Fowler will be a linebacker at LSU. He picked the Tigers over offers from the likes of Texas, TCU, Michigan and Alabama, among others and tells Shea Dixon of 247Sports that he was the top target at linebacker for LSU.

“I just wanted to go ahead and commit and be a part of the class now, because I know a lot can happen between now and Signing Day,” Fowler told Dixon. “So I called up Coach Peveto and told him I wanted to be a Tiger. He put me on the phone with Coach Miles, and he was really happy.

“I was the top linebacker on their board right now. They had been telling me that for a while. I see the opportunity and liked everything about LSU, so I went ahead and made my commitment to them.”

With today’s commitment from Fowler, LSU moved up to the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class and own the top class in the SEC, moving one spot ahead of Georgia.
