Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Tupac-Hail Mary
Yes, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Tupac appeared to use the phrase “Hail Mary” completely different, but not really. Think about it, Tupac is a little ironic when referring to the religious aspects of “Hail Mary,” talking about how religion can be the safety net for many people in the streets. Then he gets into violent talk in the first verse.
The Irish obviously have married their Catholicism with their football, and even though the Hail Mary Pass was due to Roger Staubach’s use of the phrase in the 1970s after a play against the Minnesota Vikings. Still, you can apply it to Notre Dame, and it is ironic because they mix their religion up with the most violent gladiator sport that matters in the United States.
So altogether, this is a perfect fit.
The low brass could play the slow beat in the background, while the trumpets can find the proper notes to hit for Tupac’s rap on the chorus. Altogether, Notre Dame fans can shout out to fans whether or not they are ride or die fans.
And heck, “I ain’t a killer but don’t push me” is a pretty intimidating football phrase that you could use during the games, so they should give it a chance.
