Monroe committed to LSU over offers from Texas A&M where former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis was after him and from Texas where former LSU defensive line coach Brick Haley was recruiting him.

He is the second Texas native to commit to LSU today, joining three-star defensive end Rahssan Thornton (Killeen, TX. Shoemaker) who committed in the morning and the fourth from Texas with four-star linebacker Erick Fowler (Manor, TX) four-star receiver Dee Anderson (DeSoto, TX) part of the class.

Offensive linemen Maea Tuehema and Toby Weathersby and defensive backs Jamal Adams and Edward Paris are notable top recruits from Texas to commit to LSU in the last two classes.

Overall, LSU has 17 commitments with nine coming from Louisiana, two from Florida and one from Alabama. The class moved up to the No. 1 ranking in the 247Sports team rankings, moving Florida State down to No. 2.
