Three-safety Spencer Perry committed to Notre Dame Tuesday, giving the Irish a physical, talented safety for the future.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish continued their torrid pace on the recruiting trail Tuesday evening when three-star 2016 safety Spencer Perry (Bradenton, FL. IMG Academy) committed to the program. He made the announcement via Twitter earlier in the evening.

Perry is the No. 504 player in his class, the No. 28 safety, and the No. 73 player in the Sunshine State per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With this commitment, the 2016 Irish recruiting class ranks No. 29 in the country, and first among the Independent programs per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

He was recruited by Notre Dame secondary coach Todd Lyght, who served as the primary figure in Perry’s recruitment while running backs coach Autry Denson assumed the role of secondary recruiter.

Perry notched 18 offers in total spanning all over the map. The SEC was particularly interested in the safety as Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt extended offers.

In watching his film, he was a very physical safety and didn’t shy away from contact. His instincts were very good and they allowed him to be involved in almost every play. He should bring an element of physicality into the Notre Dame secondary and his throwback, aggressive style of play will be fun to watch.

Notre Dame picked up an under-the-radar commitment today with plenty of upside.
