Final Thoughts and Prediction

Florida will not be running at maximum capacity this season. It takes time for a coach to not only build relationships with his current players, but to acquire the depth that will ensure a solid future for his team. With that being said, what fans will expect the most from McElwain is a sign that their team is moving in the right direction. The championship direction.

With the current state of Florida’s offense, no conference game should be considered an easy game. Week four’s game against Tennessee will be a good measure for Florida to see if its major offensive problems have been fixed enough to face a respectable SEC team. If they have, there’s a good chance that Florida could win.

Missouri, LSU, and Georgia will be a hard stretch of games. South Carolina will also be out for revenge. And unfortunately, Florida will most likely not be ready yet to beat its arch-rival Florida State. Maybe in another year or two.

Florida fans should not hope for more than another seven-win season. While that’s disappointing news and no change from last season, it’s the realistic news. McElwain has way too many holes to fill for him to lead Florida in a miraculous comeback.

That being said, we should all hope that McElwain aims high and not settles for low. He’s made smart moves this offseason, and if he continues that trend the Gators could be headed for some more pleasant football times.
