Tuifua is the No. 245 player in the ’17 class, the No. 11 weak-side defensive end and the No. 4 player in the state of Utah per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He was recruited by Oregon outside linebackers coach Erik Chinander.

Receiving three offers in total, Boise State, Oregon, and Utah all were vying for his services. He committed to Utah State on April 24 2014, before backing out of his commitment on May 2 of this year.

Oregon has always been high on Tuifua’s list as he told Andrew Nemec of OregonLive.com in January. “”I’ve loved Oregon,” he said. “It’s been one of my favorite schools.” He and teammate Jay Tufele were matchup nightmares for offensive linemen, combining for 142 tackles and 10 sacks as sophomores last season. Tufele is still uncommitted at this time.

With this commitment, Tuifua is the first commitment in the Ducks 2017 class, ranking them No. 18 in the country and No. 4 in the Pac-12 per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Oregon is getting a versatile linebacker who plays physical, and can get to the quarterback in a hurry. Measuring in at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, he can shed blocks easily and once he gets by his man, he uses his speed to get to the ballcarrier.

It will be interesting to see what other pieces Oregon can pick up in what still is an early stage for the 2017 class. Tuifua is a nice building block and a player that has the potential to anchor the class.
