Emmons is the No. 109 player in the 2016 class, the No. 3 running back, and the No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
He was recruited by Crimson Tide outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi, who took on the role of primary recruiter while Burton Burns, who doubles as the associate head coach and running backs coach, assumed the title of secondary recruiter.
With the inclusion of the Alabama offer, Emmons garnered seven offers in total. Charlotte, Georgia, North Carolina State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech were the other schools that offered him a scholarship.
He decommitted from the Bulldogs back on June 11.
With this commitment, Alabama carries a 2016 class that is 18 commitments strong, ranking No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
Emmons’ high school head football coach Brandon Allen told BamaOnline the coaches in Tuscaloosa really liked what he brought to the table.
“He had another visit down to Alabama,”Allen told BamaOnline. “Through that process he had another opportunity to meet with the coaches and players. They had a small camp during that period time, and I know the coaches down there were extremely high on B.J. and the skill set he brings to the table. This was a visit he and his family had together, and I think that with everybody involved together as family, they believed that was going to be the best fit for B.J.
“He really likes the coaching staff and players so he wanted to go ahead and make that commitment.”
The program gets a running back who is shifty in the open field and does a nice job of making tacklers miss. His elusiveness will certainly be an asset in the SEC as in those conference games in particular, every yard matters.
