He had been committed to Jimbo Fisher’s program since Dec. 14 of last year.

Nauta is the nation’s No. 17 ranked recruit overall regardless of position, No. 1 tight end and the No. five recruit in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The loss of his commitment has Florida State with the nation’s No. 1 class and the top class in the ACC.

The 6-4, 237-pound Nauta shared the reasons for his decommitting on his Twitter account:

Nauta picked the Seminoles over the Georgia Bulldogs when he made his announcement and the Dawgs are believed to be the front-runner after today’s announcement, especially considering his relationship with tight ends coach John Lilly and the proximity to his hometown.

He took unofficial visits to Georgia on Jun 28 and Jul 18 along with recent visits to Texas and LSU. Other schools to monitor moving forward for Nauta are the Ole Miss Rebels where his high school teammate, quarterback Shea Patterson is committed and possibly the Michigan Wolverines.

Nauta is selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American game later this year and now it could potentially serve as the perfect opportunity and platform to make his commitment to the school he’ll play his college ball.
