Penn State offensive line coach Herb Hand has a great recruiting angle to play for offensive line targets who are thinking about playing for the Nittany Lions.
Herb Hand is entering his second year as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Penn State where he followed Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin from Vanderbilt and he’s easily one of the best guys in the game.
Hand has been in coaching for 26 years and his personality and attitude has been one of the primary reasons for his long and successful career. It’s also his sense of humor and ability to connect with people of all ages that’s made him a successful recruiter.
The veteran coach has a new angle to play when he visits with some Nittany Lions offensive line targets this year after Time Out New York names the Penn State Creamery one of the best ice cream shops in the country. Hand saw this as an opportunity to get the attention of some offensive line targets and give us all a laugh in the process when he sent out this tweet.

Priceless.
If I was a Penn State target and I had an affinity for ice cream, I’d definitely be taking as many visits as I could to Happy Valley to load up on some scoops of mint chocolate chip and cookies and cream.
Hand is having some fun with his tweet, but playing up the local attractions and amenities is nothing new on the recruiting trail. Whether it’s a BBQ joint in the southeast or a great place for fish tacos on the west coast or an ice cream shop in Pennsylvania, you never know if that’ll be the difference in landing that coveted five-star recruit.
