Maine at Boston College – September 5

Normally, a game with the Maine Black Bears would not necessarily be must-see television. However, since it is the season-opener for both programs, this contest does carry weight.

In the 2014 campaign, the Eagles trounced the Black Bears by a 40-10 margin, the third time the two programs met since the ACC was split into two divisions. Boston College also won in 2006, 2010, and 2012 and holds the overall series lead by a 5-3 margin.

This will be an interesting game just to see how all the parts have come together from the summer until now. How will they replace the loss and experience of Tyler Murphy under center?  That question although still not completely answered does how one interesting tidbit of information attached to it.

Although there is no official starting quarterback sophomore Darius Wade looks to be ahead of the pack for the starting job. How will a revamped offensive line fare in the first game of the season? Many of the above questions will be partially answered and at the very least we will get a chance to see where both teams stand at the beginning of the campaign?

Another reason this game is must-see television is that it’s the start of the season for both teams.

There is nothing like opening day, where the grills are fired up, College GameDay is back on the TV, the fight songs reverberate from the echos of the bands and the fandom marches on. As someone who was there on opening day when the Eagles played the Black Bears in 2012, there is nothing like hearing “For Boston” and watching the “Eagle Walk” to the cheers of Eagle diehards.
