The amount, a $2,500 stipend according to the official press release will help with hotel accommodations, travel, and meals for up to 100 families from each program that will participate in the playoffs.

"‘We were pleased to implement this expense-reimbursement program for the first College Football Playoff National Championship and we received warm and sincere positive feedback from the family members,” said Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP. “Extending support to the Playoff Semifinals will be another terrific benefit for folks who will be thrilled to be present to celebrate the accomplishments and experiences of their student-athletes.”"

Last season, this program was first tested when the College Football Playoff distributed $5,000 which was used to help families of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks who attended the Championship Game on January 12.

This is a great idea in the sense that now it allows the families to be able to take part in what is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Travel, plus tickets, and the hotel are very expensive as it is, and for an event like this, where someone’s son, grandson, nephew, cousin, or friend will be playing in this game looking to reach the pinnacle of the sport, this is a tremendous gesture by the College Football Playoff.

In a game that embodies and thrives off family and togetherness, something like this is nothing but a positive. Kudos to the College Football Playoff.
