By now you know that 2014 was the greatest season in Mississippi State football history. The Bulldogs won ten games, made it to a New Year’s Six bowl game and spent more than a month ranked No. 1 in the nation. However, this year’s team is very different.

Yes, record-setting Heisman-caliber quarterback Dak Prescott is back – but State lost a lot of playmakers on both sides of the football. Even though head coach Dan Mullen rotated a lot of backups into the mix last season, only seven full-time starters return, which makes the Bulldogs the least experienced team in the SEC.

The schedule is also tougher. MSU should waltz through four non-conference games, but they must play the annual gauntlet that includes the rest of the SEC West, plus an improving Kentucky squad. Also, the Bulldogs no longer have the benefit of a crossover game with Vanderbilt, and must travel to face two-time defending SEC East champions Missouri on a Thursday night instead.

Mullen and Mississippi State have a way of exceeding expectations, but the odds just don’t seem to be in their favor this year. Take the under.
