Deshaun Watson is probably the best dual-threat quarterback in the nation right now, and Clemson’s chances of avoiding a late season Clemsoning episode are riding on his arm and legs. An exciting player who has every right to think Heisman.

Why Watson won’t win it:

The same reason Clemson probably won’t win the ACC is why Deshaun Watson won’t win the Heisman. Their offensive line is terrible (68th in the nation with 27 sacks allowed. 91st with 146 rush ypg. 111th with 91 TFL allowed). Their ability to show they can keep a quarterback from being injured is terrible. Their luck is terrible.

Watson is Plan A for the Tigers, but unfortunately there’s no real Plan B. The chances of Watson making it through this season unscathed are slim. He’s a quarterback who takes a Michael Vick approach to the game, and wings it a lot. He’s high risk for injury, and that may come back to haunt him and the Tigers.

On the flip side, if the gods reach down and touch Clemson’s training table to keep Watson on the field more often than not, this could be a season of trophies for both he and Clemson.
