Cardale Jones came out of nowhere last season (literally) to lead the Ohio State Buckeys through their three most difficult games of the season on the way to a national championship. That in itself is reason enough to call him a contender.

  • But Jones won’t bring home the hardware this season…not the Heisman nor national championship trophy.

    Why Jones won’t win it:

Right now it’s not even guaranteed that Jones will be the Buckeyes’ starting QB, although most indications are that he will. But even if he begins the season as a starter, he’s not going to have the element of surprise that he did last season.

Teams have film on him now, and three good games worth of it. They’ll find tendencies and holes in his game which good defenses can exploit. Even if he lasts the entire season as the starer, he won’t have the type of stats and number of wins necessary to get the votes.
