Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly rewards walk-on with scholarship (Video)
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly rewarded a walk-on with a scholarship today and there was much rejoicing.
One of my favorite things about college football is seeing walk-ons get rewarded for their hard work on the practice field, weight room and classroom and get a scholarship. The emotion you see from the walk-on players who can rest knowing they won’t have to rely on themselves and their family to pay for their education is priceless.
On Thursday we got a moment like that as Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly was able to reward running back Josh Anderson with his scholarship.
Kelly had Anderson come in front of the team in the Irish’s new “Shamrock Series” uniforms they’ll be wearing against Boston College in their game in Fenway Park later this year and gave him the good news.
“He’s a great model, that’s why I brought him up here,” Kelly began. “He models a lot of the things that are right with Notre Dame football. He’s worked hard since he’s come here, he’s worked hard and today, Josh, congratulations, we’re awarding you a scholarship.”
Those are the words every walk-on hopes to hear at some point in their college career. They aren’t going to be scoring many touchdowns or changing many games, but they’re every bit a part of the team as the starting quarterback or stud defender.
Kudos to you Josh.
