As a recruit, Perine was an explosive players coming out of high school. He was touted as a four-star running back coming out of high school and was ranked No. 30 out of 517 running backs in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

In three seasons, starting from his sophomore year on, Perine rushed for 4,923 yards and 36 touchdowns. This including an impressive 2013 campaign in which he rushed for 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns.

He received eight offers in total, including ones from Alabama and Tennessee. He chose Oklahoma and was recruited by assistant head coaches Cale Gundy and Josh Heupel before committing to the Sooners. He officially enrolled into the school on July 2, 2014.

Perine was part of a class that ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 1 in the Big-12 per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

With 1,713 yards and 21 total touchdowns in his Sooner career, it is safe to say that the developmental process for Perine has moved swiftly. Not to mention he set the FBS single-game record with 427 rushing yards against Kansas.
