Michigan Wolverines are first Jordan brand football team

It was announced months ago that the Michigan football program would be joining forces with Nike, but the announcement that the Wolverines will be the first football team that wears the Jumpman logo brings a new twist to the matter.

On Thursday, Twitter was abuzz with the news that Michigan would be the very first football program in the nation to join the Jumpman family. First off, Michael Jordan took to Twitter to make the announcement and welcome Michigan to the team.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh emerged from the cloak of silence that the coaching staff and players have been under since fall camp started a week ago, confirming the big news via Twitter.

Remarkably, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the direction for this move came from Michael Jordan himself.

Former Michigan football players Charles Woodson and LaMarr Woodley are both currently Jordan brand athletes in the NFL.

Current Michigan recruiting targets Nate Craig-Myers and Isaac Nauta tweeted their approval about the move, which will be a trend worth watching in the coming months. While this decision will be a financially profitable move for both sides, the effect this new relationship has on recruiting may be the most important aspect of all.
