Receiving eight offers in total, he was recruited by Stanford special teams coordinator Pete Alamar. The Cardinal offered Butler a scholarship on February 5, and along with football, one of his top priorities is getting a good education.
“It’s a great opportunity for me and my family,” Butler said of Stanford to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports. “I have the ability to further my education on the next level. It’s a lifetime opportunity.”
He is a very physical corner who plays with aggression and he tackles well too, as he showed last year. As a junior, he recorded 50 tackles and versatility in addition to his tackling is also one of his strengths as he told Bartow.
“Stanford is getting a physical player with ball skills,”Butler said. “They are getting an athlete that can play multiple defensive back positions. I can play the whole field. Whether it’s nickel, dime or free safety.”
The Cardinal ’16 class is shaping up to be a good one as it has 14 commitments overall and nine four-star commitments per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
Stanford has shown that they can compete with the elite teams in college football and this 2016 class in particular should keep that trend going. Particularly in the state of California where the Cardinal have to fight with the likes of UCLA and USC for recruiting, they have done a nice job holding their own.
