Stanford could be missing a key part of their passing attack in 2015 as wideout Michael Rector has been suspended indefinitely by head coach David Shaw.

Suspension season continued in the Pac-12 over the weekend as the latest key player to be suspended comes from Stanford as David Shaw has indefinitely suspended a player who was projected to be a starting wideout this season. Sitting down a key weapon for quarterback Kevin Hogan for what has been described as a disciplinary issue by the head coach.

According to a report from Jon Wilner of Mercury News in the Bay Area, wideout Michael Rector has been suspended for an undetermined amount of time for an undisclosed disciplinary issue.

Rector was expected to make his breakout season 2015 with Stanford, after two solid seasons to open his career. He had 24 catches for 234 yards and two touchdowns after having 14 catches for 431 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman.

Those numbers were safely projected to increase with more of a role this season as a target for Hogan in the passing game, but now those plans are up in the air until Shaw decides how long his wideout is going to be suspended. Regardless of how long Rector’s punishment will be, it is a slight blow to the Stanford offense losing a veteran player expected to take on an increased role this season.

Fans of the program will hope it is only a minor suspension, but with an indefinite time frame placed on Rector’s punishment from the head coach there could be a chance that the receiver’s absence will be over the long term regardless of his potential impact to the team’s chances of contending in for a Pac-12 title this season.
