SEC with most college football arrests in last five years

The SEC is the best conference in college football in more ways than one, but this is one area the fans in the south won’t be beating their chests about.

Former San Jose Mercury news reporter, Mike Rosenberg, released the arrest records of the top 25 college football teams from analysis of data found on arrestnation.com dating back to 2010.

As you can see the SEC has its fair share of arrests with Florida and Georgia leading the way with 24 and 22 arrests and SEC newcomer, Texas A&M also having 22 arrests.

The Gators and Dawgs leading in the arrest department may or may not surprise many people but what is surprising, at least to this southern based writer, are the number arrests at Washington State. Guess that makes sense why they went after coach Mike Leach, who holds a Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University, to coach their football team.

The SEC leads with 206 arrests and 11 teams represented out of the 451 total arrests listed here in the top 25. Shocking as the data may be, the data researched doesn’t reflect convictions or any details about arrests made. That in turn means the nature of the arrests are just as varied as the numbers reflected by the data.

That said, the SEC managed to bring home the crystal ball three of the five years that this data was compiled and while one could try to correlate the two the explanation for Washington State still stands out. What would be interesting to see would be a ranking of the top party schools in the nation to see how they line up with this data. I have a feeling it would be a pretty strong correlation as we know folks in the south like to party.
