3. Utah State – Oct. 16

Utah State will be contending with Boise State, Colorado State and Air Force for the Mountain Division. The Utah State Aggies should have a very good team, but do face a tough schedule. Quarterback Chuckie Keeton returns after injury last year, and the game is at Utah State in 2015. Utah State lost Keeton in 2013 too, and last year they also lost several backup quarterbacks. Despite this misfortune, the team managed to win double-digit games in 2014.

With Keeton and a solid overall team that returns nine starters on offense and six on defense, Utah State should be able to contend for the Mountain West. The Aggies were 12th in the nation in points allowed last year and while the defense probably won’t have as good numbers this season, the offense should be able to carry the team. The winner of this game should be going to the conference championship game and could end up in a major bowl game.

I think Utah State will need to outplay Boise State in almost every aspect of the game to win, which is more probable of happening than Utah State gets credit for. This is because Boise State is good enough where it can find multiple ways to win, whether that be on big special teams play or forcing turnovers into points. Utah State should have a good advantage at quarterback, which could give the team what it needs to pull off a big upset if the defense has a good game.
