SEC East Team Previews: How your team heads to SEC Championship Game
Missouri Tigers
While other teams have stolen the limelight, Missouri quietly continues to win. They have won the SEC East the past two seasons. This offseason, Georgia has become a popular prediction to win the division while Tennessee is believed to be able to challenge as well. Meanwhile, the two-time division champion Missouri Tigers will come into 2015 under the radar.
Maty Mauk returns at quarterback, but he will have young receivers with top targets like Bud Sasser moving on. The one thing that has served as the anchor of each Missouri team has been its defensive line. Despite this year’s turnover on the line, expect Head Coach Gary Pinkel and company to have the the young guys ready to play.
They are not scheduled to play the top teams in the West. Although, they will have difficult road tests against Georgia and Arkansas.
Book a trip to Atlanta: There are a few things that need to happen for Missouri to return to the Georgia Dome for the third straight year. Maty Mauk offers experience at the quarterback position, but his play has been inconsistent. Mauk must continue to improve for the Tigers to be able to return to Atlanta.
Aside from Mauk, the Tigers will play a lot of youth on both offense and defense. These players must play beyond their experience level.
The October 17th game against Georgia is a must-win game for Missouri. The winner of that game projects to be the leader of the East division depending on how Tennessee’s season goes.
Finally, like most teams do, Missouri needs a little help. Particularly, they need Tennessee to not make the drastic improvements this season that many expect them to.
