The most important game for any college football team should always be their rivalry game. So let’s not beat around the bush here this spot should be taken by the Utah Utes. It is not, however, because of many reasons that I could write 100 posts about. They aren’t on the schedule in 2015 and that is a shame. No matter what Utah or BYU fans say those two teams should meet every year period.
Since the Utes are not on the list Utah State has made itself available to fill the void left by Utah giving up the rivalry series. Utah State is a burgeoning program having gone to four straight bowl games and winning the last three. The Aggies have become quite the challenge for BYU in the state of Utah.
The Old Wagon Wheel is a trophy game between these two rival team. BYU leads the all time series 46-35-3. BYU has won 22 of the last 25 meetings but lost in 2014 to the Aggies at BYU. This years game being played at Merlin Olsen Field in Logan, Utah will no doubt help define BYU’s season.
They can not afford to lose to their rival two years in a row which hasn’t happened since USU won four straight from 1971-1974. This game if it doesn’t go BYU’s way could lead to big changes for the Cougar Program as a whole.
