BUYING

Any higher than 10, and we’re selling Georgia. Here’s a team that has arguably the best running back in the nation (Nick Chubb), one of the best young defenses in the nation (and defensive coordinator), one of the most successful coaches in the nation over the past 15 years, and yet they still seem to have an obstacle every season.

  • This year, it’s the quarterback position. Last year Georgia looked unbeatable most weeks, and then mailed-in games defensively against South Carolina, Florida and Georgia Tech. That may not have been surprising given the attrition Georgia suffered on defense and the fact that there was a first-year coordinator at the helm.

The quarterback play from Hutson Mason was serviceable. He didn’t go out and win them any games, but he didn’t cost them any either (although some true UGA fans may argue he had a lot to do with the loss to GT).

If the Dawgs can get as good or better QB play out of whatever rotation Mark Richt settles on this season, this could be an extremely dangerous team. But history tells us that they’ll find some way to shoot themselves in the foot.

Still, with some teams trending down in the SEC West, this could be Georgia’s year in the conference and heading into the playoffs.
