Could this be a make it or break it year for Coach Paul Rhoads? Success has been very elusive for Iowa State the past few seasons, and they hope to get it this year. The Cyclones have an influx of transfers—six will start on defense—and an urgency to win.

The first part of the season is imperative for Iowa State, because if they don’t win games then, they won’t win games later. The Cyclones get teams like Northern Illinois, Iowa, Toledo, Kansas, and Texas Tech before they face TCU, Baylor, Texas, and Oklahoma all back to back.

An area where the Cyclones should be improved is at receiver. Talented pass-catcher Quenton Bundrage will return from an ACL injury to join forces with Allen Lazard and D’Vario Montgomery. The trio should help quarterback Sam Richardson immensely in 2015.

Speaking of Richardson, he is yet to win a Big 12 game in his career. His total record as the starting quarterback is 3-19, which isn’t very good. After having a year to grow in Mark Mangino’s offense, Iowa State will need Richardson to take the next step.

If Iowa State can’t find ways to win, they’ll likely be faced with a lot of turnover for next season.
