With Everett Golson and Sean Maguire both performing well, a decision about who will be FSU’s starting quarterback will be made soon.

A decision on who be the starting signal-caller for the Florida State Seminoles has not been made public as of Monday, but it may be coming soon.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher did not name a starter during his press conference that occurred Monday afternoon, but he did say that a starter has been decided on and that he will tell the team before announcing his choice.

“We’ll know here very soon,” Fisher said, via Bob Ferrante of 247Sports. “I’ve got a good idea which way we’re going. I’ll talk to them, talk to the team. And then I’ll let you all know. Very quickly.”

Fisher has been mum on publicly evaluating Golson and Maguire this preseason, but did note that they have both had their ups and downs during camp.

“These guys have both had their moments and shined,” Fisher said Monday. “They have really improved in a lot of the things they don’t do as well. I really feel comfortable with either guy playing. I really do. I think both guys are really good football players.”

In particular, he has been satisfied with how Golson has absorbed the Seminoles’ system, especially given that he is still a new member of the program after transferring from Notre Dame in the spring. In Maguire’s case, Fisher told the media that he has liked how Maguire has practiced like he will be the starter and how he has carried himself.

Most expect Golson to win the starting job after starting two years at Notre Dame, including leading them to the BCS Championship Game three years ago as a redshirt freshman.
