The SEC West is wide open, and Texas A&M has every reason to believe they can win the division.

First, the Aggies are loaded offensively. Kyle Allen has emerged as the team’s unquestioned starting quarterback, and the sophomore signal caller is likely to lead the SEC in passing. Allen has the benefit of one of the league’s best receiving corps, led by Josh Reynolds, who set a school record with 13 touchdown catches in 2014, and a pair of big-time playmakers in 6-foot-5 target Ricky Seals-Jones and electric slot receiver Speedy Noil.

Not just a one-sided unit, A&M can also run the football and proved it with 235 rushing yards in the 45-37 Liberty Bowl victory over West Virginia last season. Tra Carson gets an opportunity to be the featured back after Brandon Williams converted to cornerback and Trey Williams left for the NFL.

The biggest questions remain on defense – but new defensive coordinator John Chavis can be a huge answer. After spending the last six years as the DC at LSU, and 14 years prior to that coordinating the defense at Tennessee, Chavis knows his way around the league, and he knows how to play championship defense.

Expect Chavis to be very aggressive in 2015, which should help the Aggies improve their minus-7 turnover ratio from last season, which ranked No. 13 in the SEC and No. 105 nationally. Star defensive end Myles Garrett, who set an SEC freshman record with 11.5 sacks in 2014, is poised for a big year.

It will take some luck, and probably a tie-breaker to make it to Atlanta, but with a manageable schedule that includes home games against Alabama and Auburn, the Aggies have a shot to win their first SEC crown.
