Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright is out of the game with what is believed to be a knee injury after taking himself out midway through the first quarter against UTSA.

This is when word circulated that Wright was being checked out by the trainers and with all the preseason injuries in the NFL and training camp injuries around college football, you can’t help but panic with the thought the best defensive player in the nation could be lost for a chunk of time.

After a few minutes of Arizona fans, players and coaches thinking the worst that Wright, the reigning Bednarik, Nagurski, Lombardi winner would miss the rest of the year. But then No. 33 came back on the field the next series and all looked to be right.

Only it wasn’t.

Wright took himself out and went to the trainer’s table to have his left leg looked at, according to SB Nation’s Arizona site, Arizona Desert Swarm.

That was the end of the night for Wright who removed the tape on his hands and arms and untucked his jersey and had an ice pack on his left knee.

What does this mean?!

There’s no word on the severity of the injury, so stay tuned to Saturday Blitz and follow us on twitter for more injury updates on the status of Wright’s left knee.

UPDATE: 11:09

Pac-12 Network’s Jill Savage tweeted out a picture of Wright returning standing on one crutch and it doesn’t look like there’s a brace or anything on his left knee. So think of that what you will.

Wright led the nation in tackles, tackles for loss, forced fumbles and finished third in sacks.
