Auburn Recruiting: 4-star athlete Stephen Davis Jr. decommits
On Sunday, the Auburn Tigers were on the receiving end of a decommitment from versatile athlete Stephen Davis Jr,
A former Tiger is a Tiger no more. On Sunday, 2016 four-star athlete Stephen Davis Jr. decommitted from Auburn, making the announcement via Twitter. The program had recruited him as a safety/linebacker hybrid.
Davis Jr. is the No. 319 player in the ’16 class, No. 17 athlete, and the No. 6 player in the state of South Carolina per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Notching 10 offers in total, he was recruited by Auburn secondary coach Travaris Robinson.
Auburn had been very active in his recruitment throughout the process. He visited the campus on November 20, 2013, March 8, 2014 and one final time on August 3, 2014 before committing the day after. This year, he visited the campus on March 7, his final visit before he decommitted Sunday.

Currently, the Tigers have a very strong ’16 class with 12 commits in total and four four-star commits, good enough for No. 17 in the country and No. 7 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
Although this commitment is certainly a sizable loss for the Tigers, it is one that comes as no major surprise. As Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports.com noted, Davis was not at the A-Day Spring Game, Big Cat, and the Prospect cookout which happened in July. In the spring he had said that he wanted to visit other school and told Niebuhr that he was only “70 percent” committed to Auburn.
The Tigers could have really used his versatility particularly on defense, so this is certainly a disappointment for Auburn. However, their 2016 class still possesses enough weapons in order for the Tigers to open the eyes of the SEC.
