The Ohio State Buckeyes and Virginia Tech Hokies will wear helmet decals on their helmets Monday to honor the WDBJ-7 journalists who were killed while reporting.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will wear decals on their helmets Monday as they join Virginia Tech in honoring the lives of Alison Parker and Adam Ward who died tragically last month with a helmet decal as the two teams go to-to-toe in the confines of Blacksburg under the lights of the primetime microscope.

“Ohio State expressed a desire to show its solidarity with Virginia Tech in remembering the vibrant lives of Alison Parker and Adam Ward,” Virginia Tech athletics director Whit Babcock said. “Coach Beamer and I both agreed it was a wonderful gesture on the part of Gene Smith (Ohio State AD), Urban Meyer (head coach) and the Buckeyes. We hope fans of both teams join us in hopefully providing some solace to the friends, families and co-workers who continue to miss Alison and Adam.”

The decal will have the number seven as well as teal and maroon ribbons to honor Parker whose favorite color was teal and Parker, who graduated from the school in 2011.

This is a touching tribute that will tie in nicely with what should be a tremendous contest as the Buckeyes look for revenge. In the last meeting between the two schools, the Hokies pounded the No. 7 Buckeyes by a 35-21 score and shocked the college football world.  With those two things serving as a backdrop, albeit in very different ways, this game should have a heightened sense of emotion as the Hokies try to secure a victory and give a grieving school community something to cheer about.
