No. 20 Boise State (up from 23): This is probably the most befuddling ranking of them all. I mean, everyone seems to want to see Boise State do well, but the truth is they didn’t do well against Washington at all. The Broncos are supposed to be dominant at home, and were playing against a Huskies team with 50 freshmen and redshirt freshman on the roster. This should have been over at the coin toss. A mere 16-13 win over Washington was not worth moving up three spots in the poll.
No. 23 Tennessee (up from 25): Here again, we see rewards for what was mediocre play, especially on defense. The Volunteers, out of the mighty SEC, gave up 557 yards, 24 first downs and 30 points to a team out of the little ol’ MAC. Bowling Green should have been put away early, but the Vols just let them keep hanging around. Mind you, this isn’t a knock on the Falcons, but rather a statement that if you’re going to ranked in the top 25, you should be playing like a top 25 team.
